Feature Request:

• What about adding widescreen (16:9?) support?
  It would be awesome ;)

This is for an exact replica of Super Mario Bros., it would take a lot of editing for widescreen support. Second best is fullscreen, press F for that.

Play Mari0 instead, it has 16:9 support and even an improved framerate. (By default, it gives you a portal gun, which you can deactivate in the cheats menu once you've beaten the game once.)
