The new version of Go has been optimized, and variables do not need to be reassigned.

@claudecodering this needs to wait. I have other bigger PRs that needs merging first. I suspect some merge conflicts from this one. Also, I plan to run Go's modernizer tool in a few days, and I suspect that will covert this one, too.

It's not possible to use `b.Loop()` when `b.N` is used to prepare test data.
