I'll second this by asking for JXL support as well. JXL can losslessly transcode JPEG images with a ~20% file size reduction, so enabling it by default server side would save users storage & bandwidth effortlessly |

I just got hit by EDIT: indeed, I changed this line (in the generated javascript) and everything is working fine (EXIF, machine learning, ...). |

Hi, I tried making a patch to support .avif upload. @awoimbee gave me a clue where to start, but there was other stuff to add. I also added support for Canon RAW (.CR2 - image/x-canon-cr2) while I was at it, since I have a number of those in my archive. Anyways, https://github.com/immich-app/immich/compare/main...elliotclee:immich:avif-and-more?expand=1 has the patch I came up with. I can turn it into a pull request if desired. |

Feature detail
It would be really cool if immich would support avif. This is probably a feature request for the distant future but I wanted to open it anyway to draw attention to it.
This feature request initially intended to support uploading, processing and viewing avif files but there is also a second use case for avif. Namely to use it for the thumbnails since avif has a higher quality at the same size or a lower size with the same quality compared to webp. But maybe it's too early if the intend is to cover a very broad audience and avif is not yet supported on all devices.
