ANNOUNCEMENT: Deprecation of Cloud Provider Equinix Metal

The Equinix Metal service is being discontinued on 30 June 2026. As such this cloud controller manager project is going to be deprecated.

As discussed most recently in the 27 August 2025 SIG office hours, this project will be announced for deprecation, updated to the 1.34 kubernetes dependencies, and then will planned for archiving after the 1.37 release of kubernetes.

given that there are several pending kubernetes dependency updates, and that the maintainers of this project have shifted over time. it is prudent for the sig cloud provider community to be inquiring about the status of this provider.

is the equinix metal platform being updated and maintained by the provider? (there had been some talk that this platform was being deprecated)

if the platform is being deprecated, should we start the process of archiving this repository?

I believe we should start the archival process. They recently archived the CAPI provider, so archiving this would be in line. Tagging in @displague for confirmation.
