What to Submit

• Project updates (MapLibre GL JS, Native, plugins, etc.)
• Community events, talks, or meetups
• New features, demos, or documentation updates
• We also invite submissions for Community Spotlights, that features projects built with MapLibre. To be featured:
  • Your project must be open-source, or have a significant open-source component
  • Projects that are non-commercial, non-profit-oriented or created for the public good will be prioritized.
  • Please include a short description and a link (demo, repo, or blog post)
  • Screenshots or gifs are a plus!
  • Please note we aim to highlight work that aligns with MapLibre’s community values rather than promotional or commercial content

MapLibre GL JS v5.11.0 was released yesterday. Among the improvements: a stylesheet no longer strictly requires server-side glyph PBFs via glyphs and can apply local fonts or Web fonts to any text, not just CJK. Even if the stylesheet continues to specify glyphs for compatibility with MapLibre Native, local font rendering is enabled whenever the required glyph PBF is inaccessible for any reason. Implementing this change had some nice side effects as seen in osm-americana/openstreetmap-americana#1288: locally rendered CJK text can now be in regular, bold, and italic depending on the layer, and certain Japanese characters are no longer misaligned.

MapLibre GL Video Export Plugin - v0.1.0 Release

I'm happy to announce the first release of an open-source plugin for MapLibre GL JS that enables video export with animated camera movements.

What it does:

• Exports videos (WebM/MP4) directly from MapLibre GL maps
• 28 preset animations (orbit, drone shots, terrain-aware paths, etc.)
• Waypoints system for defining points of interest
• WebM VP9 recommended (royalty-free, hardware-accelerated)

Technical approach:
Uses MapLibre GL JS v5.11.0+ time control API (setNow()) for deterministic frame-by-frame rendering, ensuring smooth exports without screen recording artifacts.
