Suggestion of adding minimal dependency for the new extension Highlight Text. If not duable, how would it be possible to download a specific version of Highlight text?

Description

ERROR: The extension Highlight Text is incompatible with this quarto version.
Extension requires: >=1.7.29
Current Quarto version: 1.6.40

I don't intend to make the extension codebase conditional on the Quarto version.
Dark/light brand mode comes with 1.7, so is the PDF engine detection fix.
So either, keep an outdated version of the extension or update Quarto CLI.

The error message comes from Quarto CLI because there is a minimal required version set.
Isn't it enough?

If you have the message you know you can't upgrade/install the extension with your current version regardless of if it's written in a README.md.

I guess (but I have to install the extension beforehand).
Do you know if there's an easy way to retrieve the current version (such as the GitHub sha) of a Quarto extension? To avoid for instance mixing different versions of the same Quarto extension in distinct projects?

GitHub API or tags if the maintainers do use them.
If a maintainer use tag/release: quarto add owner/repo@tag.

FYI, I've opened a feature request to also get the extensions information in the JSON payload from quarto inspect.
This would allow to programmatically handle extensions.
