iotprovision-bin script failing on Ubuntu, unable to connect to AWS

I have a PIC-IoT WA Development Board, board is plugged in, able to get the wifi working (solid blue light), but green light is stuck blinking, no other lights are lighting up. Using the drag and drop hex file from here Tried to use the iotprovision tool to upgrade the firmware, getting this error:

Error, tool = nEDBG CMSIS-DAP: Unable to connect to USB device (open failed) No suitable IoT kits found

although I am able to connect to the board through MPLab, running 'Make and Program Device' is successful

USB devices in Linux are owned by the root user by default, and access to the IoT board will therefore require running the provisioning tool with elevated privileges (or make changes to the ownership). Try running sudo ./iotprovision-bin, and see if that works.

The No suitable IoT kits found error message is a bit misleading. I'll bring this to the developers' attention.
