Hands-free RU↔EN conversation: Google Translate echoes source language

Use case: two people sitting at one table, one phone running a hands-free interpreter app for Russian ↔ English.

I’m not concerned about privacy, so I tried Google Translate in the Conversation mode. However, the auto-detect frequently picks the wrong side and simply repeats the utterance in the original language instead of translating.

1. Does RTranslator’s Walkie-Talkie (Automatic) mode handle RU↔EN auto-detection more reliably?
2. If there’s a known fix for the Google Translate’s Conversation mode to prevent this “echoing/repeating instead of translating” behavior, I’d love to hear it.

Hi,

1. From my experience with other languages the language detection on RTranslator works pretty good, for en to ru I suggest you to simply try and evaluate from your experience.
2. I don't know if there is a fix, but I don't think so, from what you are describing I think that Google simply mistakes Russian inputs for English and so it translates it to Russian (or the other way around), producing a simple transcription.
