Hello All,

I'm in the process of migrating our legacy frontend app from Create React App (CRA) to Vite. The transition has had its challenges, but I'm nearly done. Everything is up and running locally, and I'm able to build the app successfully on my machine. However, I'm encountering an issue when deploying the app through my GitHub Actions workflow. Specifically, I'm receiving the following error during the deployment job:

[vite:load-fallback] Could not load /__w/[repo-name]/[repo-name]/src/__vite-browser-external (imported by __vite-browser-external?commonjs-proxy): ENOENT: no such file or directory, open '/__w/[repo-name]/[repo-name]/src/__vite-browser-external'

this is my vite.config.js

I removed some packages from my app, and I hit a different error!
it might be related to some old dependencies in my project using common.js syntax

looks like I'm mistaken, React itself is using common js, so it doesn't seem to be the root cause for this issue

after many many hours, the issue was with vite-jsconfig-paths it plays well with esbuild in development but it didn't play well with rollup on production for an unknown reason to me atm ..
I fixed the issue by replicating my aliases from from jsconfig in vite.config

I’m reopening this issue because I’m facing the same problem. The build works fine on Windows, but on Linux, I get this error:

[vite:load-fallback] Could not load <module-path> ENOENT: no such file or directory

What I Have Tried
✅ Checked for case sensitivity (Linux is case-sensitive, but all imports match exactly).
✅ Cleared cache & reinstalled dependencies (rm -rf node_modules .vite dist && npm install).
✅ Ensured alias paths match in vite.config.ts and tsconfig.json.

Project Details
Vite Version: 5.4.1
React Version: 18.3.1
OS: ❌ Fails on Linux (Ubuntu 22.04, etc.), ✅ Works on Windows

I faced the same problem today while deploying on Render, but even after checking the paths and naming conventions of the files, it still gave an error. So I made some changes to the file names and it worked. Here’s a step-by-step in case you got stuck on this bug:

• Temporarily remove all kinds of suffixes (e.g., HomeLayout -> Home)
• Check your alias
• Check the file names and paths, as well as the folder names (Windows is not case-sensitive, but Linux is)
• Create simple .js files in the folders that are causing errors and try importing them
• Enable source maps in your build configuration to help identify errors more precisely, for example:

build: {
    sourcemap: true,
}

If the problem persists, it possibly isn’t related to the file paths or names

I solved it with a case sensitive, I had @pages/QrScanner, and the name of the file was QRScanner.jsx, I changed it to @pages/QRScanner and worked, but now I have another issue, lol
