Releases: Eclipse-Community/r3dfox-old

Release v140.0.4-1 for Vista+

28 Aug 11:15

Choose a tag to compare

Attention: This repo will soon be replaced by https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox
This will be the last r3dfox build posted here. Later release and ESR 140/128/115 builds will be released on the new repo and this old repo will be archived. Please follow and star the new repo.
If you are downloading this on Sourceforge, you don't need to do or change anything, I'll just tell it to get builds from the new repo.

Also this build is not built off of win-140 branch here, it is built off of the win-140-minier branch on the new repo.

The portable builds are fully portable, the profile directory is inside the browser folder. It does not touch appdata at all.

Requirements to use the browser on a given OS:
Vista: Service Pack 2 + KB971644 Platform Update
7 RTM/SP0 and later: Should just work.

Notable bugs:
The 32 bit build is built with --disable-sandbox. With the sandbox enabled under Vista, the browser fails to open multiple processes which breaks the browser. The 64 bit build is fine. Considering Mypal68 globally disables the sandbox, I don't think it's that bad. If this really is a big issue then please pr a fix.

Cairo/GDI backend ignores system cleartype settings and causes crashes on older versions of Windows and crashes without e10s.

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v140.0.4 build:
Fixed the new JumpListBuilder, it no longer crashes the browser and therefore is now enabled by default and should result in a performance improvement. (although idk if that improvement can be quantified lol)
Brought back the "unread" tab attribute, unread tabs can be styled again.
Changed some more preferences (disabled integrated screenshot and translation tools, disabled disk caching)
Fixed a dark/light theme bug that could result in a mismatched theme and/or unreadable text.
Fixed Eclipse Purple colors always showing on about:blank no matter what color scheme was selected.
Updated site specific useragent compatibility overrides to report the browser as Firefox 140. (for 140 ESR)

Haven't tested on XP (OCAPI) nor have I extensively stability tested.

Please let me know what bugs or issues you encounter with it.

This might actually be the most tested release of r3dfox before release. On account of me making a "test" but optimized PGO build to then apply changes to like updating the theme or other minor changes that wouldn't require recompiling. Except I didn't feel like doing those today, and rather than have the builds just sit for a while, I'll just release them now.

No major changes worth noting.

Although https://github.com/Eclipse-Community/r3dfox/issues/320 is fixed now, but that was fixed in upstream.

Haven't tested on XP (OCAPI) nor have I extensively stability tested.

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v139.0.4-hotfix build:
New installs with start with the r3dfox settings and https://eclipse.cx website opened. (This also works around the SessionStore bug for whatever reason idk)

Fixed view image background button
Added options for even more classic style context menu entires.
All color schemes (aside from r3dfox r3d) now have a red tab indicator in private browsing mode.
Eclipse Purple color scheme now has normal r3dfox private mode colors.
Eclipse Purple Dark color scheme should no longer flashbang you in dark mode
XUL windows are now light mode as to better integrate with system styles. (Like the about:config string prompt)

Requirements to use the browser on a given OS:
Vista: Service Pack 2 + KB971644 Platform Update
7 RTM/SP0 and later: Should just work.

Notable bugs:
This version of r3dfox isn't completely compatible with 128 ESR userChrome.css themes. You will need to replace instances of "(-moz-bool-pref: " with "-moz-pref(" for the theme to work correctly.

The r3dfox color scheme selector has been changed. This means your theme will be reset to the default orange for this release. You can change it back to your preferred style in settings.

Requirements to use the browser on a given OS:
Vista: Service Pack 2 + KB971644 Platform Update
7 RTM/SP0 and later: Should just work.

Notable bugs:
SessionStore may be broken in some manner? I'd recommend setting r3dfox to Use custom settings for history, close and reopen browser, then if you wish, set the browser back to Remember history. This process looks to fix the issue.

The 32 bit build is built with --disable-sandbox. With the sandbox enabled under Vista, the browser fails to open multiple processes which breaks the browser. The 64 bit build is fine. Cairo/GDI backend ignores system cleartype settings and causes crashes on older versions of Windows and crashes without e10s.

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v139.0.4 build:
Fixed broken menu spacing in Bookmarks Menu (and likely some other menus as well)

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v139.0.4 build:
Actually fixed accent colors.
VC++ DLLs are now included again
Browser omni.ja files are now packaged using Brotli compression. ~5MB bigger download size, but ~56MB smaller than last release when extracted/installed
Fixed private mode color flickering when opening tabs with Eclipse Purple theme
Reverted sizing of r3dfox logo on new tab page to 128 ESR sizing
Added option in r3dfox settings to enable/disable tab groups

Haven't tested on XP (OCAPI) nor have I extensively stability tested.

Please let me know what bugs or issues you encounter with it.

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v128.12.0rc build:
Fixed broken menu spacing in Bookmarks Menu (and likely some other menus as well)

r3dfox specific changes on top of the previous v128.10.0 build:
Fixed useragent missing OS slice when privacy.resistFingerprinting is set to true
Fixed sidebar not reopening on start if sidebar was opened when browser was closed
(Pretty much all just changes/fixes ported from later r3dfox releases)
VC++ DLLs are now included again
Browser omni.ja files are now packaged using Brotli compression. ~5MB bigger download size, but ~56MB smaller than last release when extracted/installed (these numbers are from 139 and I'm too lazy to check the numbers for 128)
Fixed opening and closing find in page causing scroll bar to get funky
Improved menu accuracy (removed 1px inaccuracy in sizing)
Added new Eclipse purple color scheme (This is the most complex color scheme I've made for the browser)
User agent overrides work better (now works for sites like gmx.com)
User agent override added for gmx.com and mail.com
OS_SLICE added to useragent overrides, so the user operating system is reported correctly when using a override.
All user agent overrides are using more realistic useragents (Firefox 115 or Chrome 109)
Option to enable/disable automatic cookie banner handling added to r3dfox settings
Added the rest of the portable mode code (pmprt.mod now makes the browser run in no-remote mode as it should and completely disables set as default functionality) (Normal portable mode (pmundprt.mod) works the same as before)
Added option to enable Skia GDI mode in settings. (buggy)
Redone and improved r3dfox settings. (There are almost too many changes here to list)
GDI and Cairo now display fonts.
Added option to reverse urlbar switch to tab behavior (it's a little buggy)
New Windows 7 support codebase. (This should fix PiP and other issues)
Windows versions now have their own specified themes again.
Modern UI setting has been replaced by Windows version theme override.
Menubar text glow setting has been removed as it no longer erroneously shows on Windows 8 and later.
SendFlushRenderingAsync is now disabled in all cases without DWM for causing rendering errors.
32 bit tooltip fix has been massively simplified.

Haven't extensively stability tested.

Please let me know what bugs or issues you encounter with it.
