List of changes proposed in this PR:

  • iOS Overview
    • Replace all instances of "Apple ID" with "Apple Account" to reflect the change in iOS 18
    • Update Wi-Fi section to reflect new MAC randomization setting
    • Update instructions for redacting faces/info
    • Note Bluetooth behavior after system updates
    • Rearrange sections in Additional Advice so that it flows more naturally
    • Update names of settings that have changed
    • Add more switches in Analytics & Improvements section
    • Convert greater-than signs to arrows where appropriate
    • Add threat model label to BFU section
    • Add images from the Privacy & Security section of iOS to illustrate the available photo and contact permissions
  • Safari (Mobile Browsers page)
    • Update setting paths that have changed since iOS 18
    • Remove Privacy Report section
      • Reasoning: In my opinion, I don't think that the enumeration of foiled trackers is a feature that is worth highlighting here. Besides, the Privacy Report statistics reset once all private tabs are closed.
    • Remove part of the Safari description that mentions the ability to lock private tabs behind biometrics/PIN
      • Reasoning: I think that the card descriptions for browsers specifically should highlight the privacy features that do not require configuration, i.e., those that are built in to the browser and enabled by default. Also, this feature is not unique to Safari; Brave offers this as well.
    • Increase levels of some headings as a result of the Brave recommendation moving up on the page
  • tools.md

To Do

  • Add section about photo library access and contacts access
  • Document new "Require Face ID/Touch ID" features, its use cases, and its limitations
